API terms

In short: use it freely, credit the sources, keep your key to yourself, and don't overload the service.

These terms cover the jobfacts API, run by Jakob Brugmans ("we"). By getting or using a key you agree to them. Version 2026-10, last updated 10 October 2026.

1. What you can do

You can use the API and its data for any lawful purpose, including in commercial products, free of charge. The data comes from official sources published under open licences, and those licences, not these terms, govern what you may do with the data itself.

2. Credit the sources

The licences require you to credit each source wherever you show its data. Show the statements in the attribution guide, including the Skills England logo next to apprenticeship data. This is a condition of using the data, and you are responsible for meeting it in what you build.

3. Your key

  • One key per person or organisation. Don't share it, publish it, or put it in code that runs in browsers or apps.
  • Don't use several keys to get around the rate limit.
  • If your key is exposed, get a new one: it replaces the old key straight away.
  • We may suspend or revoke a key that is used to break these terms, that has leaked, or that puts the service at risk.

4. Fair use

Free keys allow 60 requests a minute. The figures change at most monthly, so cache responses: the errors and limits guide explains how. Don't try to disrupt the service, get around its security, or access it other than through the documented API. If you need more, contact us.

5. No endorsement

Don't say or suggest that your product is endorsed by jobfacts or by any publisher of the data, such as the Office for National Statistics, the Department for Education or Skills England.

6. No warranty

The API is free and provided as it is, without any warranty. We work to keep it available and its figures faithful to their sources, but we don't guarantee either, and the figures are only as accurate as the surveys and statistics behind them. As far as the law allows, we are not liable for any loss arising from using the API or its data. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

7. Changes

Version 1 of the API keeps its shape: we add fields and endpoints but don't remove or change existing ones without notice. We'll email key holders about changes that affect them and about material changes to these terms. We may stop the service, giving notice where we can.

8. Law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and its courts deal with any dispute.
